Diehard Profile: Dean Santa

“The goal was exposing fans to a variety of bands and we did just that.”

What happens when a show gets cancelled? You turn it into an all day music festival instead. At least, that’s what Dean Santa, 23, of Staten Island did, and that decision has started to put some life into the local scene. Even if it was all by accident.

Live Shots: Thy Art Is Murder at Mayhem Fest 2015

When your guitarist’s sound shuts off mid-set, you improvise the guitar solo with doo-doo-doo’s in your vocals. When the crowd isn’t moving fast enough, you jump down into the circle pit and get shit moving. At least, that’s how Thy Art Is Murder vocalist CJ McMahon runs the show. And of course, nothing says “brutal” more than a banana yellow guitar and a popsicle shirt, right Andy? Check out some metal photos of Thy Art Is Murder from the Holmdel, New Jersey date of Mayhem Fest 2015 below!

Most bands jump around a lot on stage. The self-described “emotional” band Sworn In like to lurk. Wielding their chaotic blend of metal, industrial, and -core sounds at Rockstar Mayhem Fest on Tuesday, they sneered and stared at the New Jersey crowd who weren’t sure whether to mosh or take cover. Which will you choose?

Frnkiero Andthe Cellabration Headlining Tour Dates

frnkiero

Ex-My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero has been taking the underground by storm since his noise punk band released .Stomachaches. in the summer of 2014. While it’d be easy to pin the success Frnkiero Andthe Cellabration have on the ten-mile-high MCR platform Iero had to jump from, the debut record clearly deserves notoriety in its own right. So much so, that the New Jersey basement sounds have earned a headlining spot on a tour with Against Me!.

The band’s headlining dates are selective and, for the Coasters, somewhere off the beaten path. But even if you can’t catch those shows, you can catch Frnkiero Andthe Cellabration on their supporting run with Against Me! in June and early July. Want tickets? Yeah, thought so.

July 22 – Salt Lake City, UT – The Loading Dock

Review: Palisades – ‘Mind Games’

Mind Games

‘Mind Games’ Album Stream

As a hardcore kid, turning up with friends who aren’t into heavy music can ignite a bit of an identity crisis. Parties can be hard to navigate if you aren’t the biggest fan of Top 40, and some people won’t be enthused when you try to blast Bring Me The Horizon instead. The answer to the riddle of how to get by as a hardcore kid who also likes to go hard is Palisades’ new album, Mind Games.
