LIVE REVIEW: Drop the Gloves Tour at Webster Hall

Blessthefall always puts on a fantastic live show, exploding like a sucker punch to the throat and then transporting the venue to a slow-moving, slow-dancing, lighters-in-the-air pop concert. Until vocalist Beau Bokan asked for a brief break, Webster Hall was filled with blinding, raging awe. Older Blessthefall music has a way of tapping into the listener’s raw emotion, and the crowd was definitely thankful that half the set was dedicated to some of the best metalcore to date.

INTERVIEW: A War Within ft. Levi Benton (Miss May I)

We caught up with vocalist Spencer Maybe of Detroit, MI band A War Within after their set on the New York City date of the Drop The Gloves Tour, featuring Sirens & Sailors, The Plot In You, Miss May I, and Blessthefall. Bathed in the red light of the lounge we probably shouldn’t have had access to, we chatted about Backstreet Boys, what it’s like to be an unsigned band on a major tour, and how he and Levi Benton of Miss May I (who appears mid-interview) have a very, very special relationship.

Un-Merry Christmas Playlist

Un-Merry Xmas

Punks are notoriously “anti-“, especially when it comes to holidays centered around what many perceive as greedy, narcissistic capitalism. Some, on the other hand, just like to make traditional holiday hits a bit heavier. So in the spirit of giving, here’s a playlist of ten tracks to make your Xmas a bit less merry and a bit more merciless.

Interview: John Ritter, Michael Swank of Myka Relocate

mykarelocate_hxcinterview2015

While sitting at the bottom of the stairs in Webster Hall on the October 30th date of the Hate Me Tour,  we got to ask vocalists John Ritter and Michael Swank of Myka Relocate some questions about Halloween, some of their craziest life experiences, and their new record The Young Souls. The record had officially been released via Razor & Tie the day of this interview, as was headliners Escape The Fate‘s new record, Hate Me, via Eleven Seven Music.  Watch the video below to see what these dudes are like pre-show and learn about Swank’s alter ego, “Crop Top Mike”. Oh, and a dude in a red leather jester outfit walks through the video at some point, too. Unfortunately his jester hat is out of frame, but he was totally the star of this one.

Video Premiere: A Skylit Drive “Bring Me A War”

Social and political commentary have been trending themes for a lot of bands lately, and due to the current climate in the United States alone it’s not hard to see why. Shortly after announcing a tour with Escape The Fate, A Skylit Drive released a new music video called “Bring Me A War,” and it definitely falls into that category. In the video, grainy clips of protests, demonstrations, and significant civil rights moments in US history are spliced in between footage of the band giving an enraged performance. Their final message? A quote from Ghandi.

Check out the video below and keep an eye out for A Skylit Drive’s upcoming self-titled record out October 9th via Tragic Hero. And of course, grab your tickets to the Hate Me tour soon!
